In late November of 2016, we struck a partnership deal with an indie travel service. We then kicked off 2017 by preparing for the launch of our very own in-house travel agency.

We then scheduled beta testing of our travel services for January 28, 2017. On January 27, 2017, the first travel ban was signed into effect. By February, a second had followed. These events compelled us to postpone all travel-related plans at the firm.

However, after closely monitoring the sociopolitical landscape for two months, we decided to resume beta testing of our domestic travel services.

For our flagship test trip, we sent Founder & Managing Director, Alexis Chateau, to Vegas for a 5-day trip. She later returned with a full report on the must-see attractions in Las Vegas. Here are our top five from that list.

Bellagio

Las Vegas is a pricey city, but you can keep travel costs low if you know where to go. While Bellagio isn’t a wise hotel choice for travelers on a dime, it’s a great place to find free and family-friendly entertainment.

The Japanese Gardens at Bellagio are beautiful, but it draws a large crowd. This is great if you’re looking for company, but not so great if you planned on taking a lot of pictures. And believe us, there are plenty of great photo ops at this picturesque attraction.

Outside the Japanese Gardens is the walkway leading to a second attraction at Bellagio: the water show. For the show, the fountain “dances” to a mix of oldies and electronic music.

The best time to view the fountains is at dusk or at night, with the strip lurking in the background. However, it does get crowded at this time, so get there early to find a good spot.

High Rollers at The Linq

It’s not what it sounds like – we promise. In fact, this is another family-friendly option; provided your kids can follow rules well, and are not afraid of heights.

Why? Because you literally jump on board a moving cabin to get on the 550-foot tall “observation wheel”.

It’s also a little pricey, but if you can brave the price, the heights, and the death-defying jump, then High Rollers is totally worth the trip. The Ferris Wheel offers 360-degree views of the city from the glass cabin.

The glare makes it a little difficult to get great pictures, but seasoned photographers may be able to get around this. The best time to visit is at sunset going into the night time. The desert sights are beautiful, and the city lights provide a colorful finish.

So how long will you be rolling high up in the air? The ride lasts 30 minutes and one trip is one rotation. As you can imagine, it moves very slowly, so the death-defying jump isn’t too bad after all.

Apparently, they even trust you to make it drunk, as High Rollers does allow drinks on-board. Would this be Vegas, if they didn’t?

Taco Bell Cantina

Yes. Taco Bell. We’re serious! Here’s why this Taco Bell is different from just about any other Taco Bell you will ever come across.

The menu at the Taco Bell Cantina is a lot like the menu at any other Taco bell, with one glaring exception: it also serves wine, beer, and alcoholic smoothies.

“Club Taco Bell” also plays music that could rival any club, and features a sports bar layout: from the TV sets on the wall to the drink dispensers.

Even if you only drop by to grab a burrito, this is definitely something Taco Bell lovers – like us – should experience for themselves.

Red Rock Canyon

For the more outdoorsy and adventurous travelers, we recommend Red Rock Canyon. The locals gave us quite a few recommendations for trails to hike, and all but one was at this park.

If you’re used to city trails like the ones in Atlanta and New York, you may want to think twice before approaching Red Rock Canyon without due preparation. It is not uncommon for hikers to fall to their death, or to suffer dehydration.

That said, Alex swears Red Rock Canyon was one of the best hiking trips she ever took. She hiked up to the red line in the middle of the mountain on the left, and then back down to find the First Creek Trail.

She shares:

The trails aren’t properly marked, so you have to wing it, and somewhere along the winging, we got lost.

After a while, we got enough signal to do a search for the First Creek Trail. Finding a creek in the desert was turning into a needle in a haystack search.

Turns out we had hiked 2 hours in the wrong direction and had to turn back – but it was all so much fun. I would do it all again in a heartbeat. 

We’re happy to say she finally found the elusive creek, and returned to her hotel without injury.

Stratosphere

Last, but certainly not least, is the Stratosphere. This tower of doom is a theme park in the sky. Hoisted up at 1,149 feet over the city, the rides at this park are not for the faint of heart.

This is a great choice for adrenaline junkies who need more thrill than hiking in the desert, to get their hearts pumping.

Unfortunately, we didn’t test this attraction out for ourselves, but it came highly recommended from locals and fellow travelers. You can find information on their thrill rides here.
